October 31, 2011

This was Isaac's first time to do some real trick-or-treating.  He loved it and I had fun watching him.  Here he is with all of his loot.  We only did two streets, but he got plenty.  His favorites are the Reese's and the M&Ms.

October 30, 2011

I've always really liked this shirt on Isaac, so when I saw a little baby version of the same shirt I just had to have it for Luke.  I used to always think that families with children in matching clothes were kind of nerdy.  I don't know why I suddenly think it is the cutest thing ever on my boys!

October 29, 2011

My sister Sandy's birthday is this weekend, so today I drove out to Chino Hills to take her to lunch.  I brought Luke with me but other than him we were kid free.  It was really nice to sit and have a relaxing lunch and a conversation with no interruptions.  Happy Birthday Sandy!

October 28, 2011

Tonight was the Trunk or Treat at the church.  Isaac had fun collecting candy, but his favorite thing was a short maze that one family had made inside a tent next to their car.  He must have gone through that maze about 50 times (I am not exaggerating).  Luckily they knew Isaac and were very nice about his maze obsession.  Here he is with his friend Hudson.  They both seemed genuinely excited about seeing one another's costumes and they looked so cute together.

October 27, 2011

Today the boys received Halloween cards in the mail from their Grandma & Grandpa Wood.  Isaac was very excited and Luke just wanted to eat his.

October 26, 2011

There is a pumpkin patch right next to Isaac's school and he kept asking to go, so we used it as a bit of a bribe this week to encourage good behavior.  I'm not sure when pumpkin patches turned into mini carnivals, but this one had all sorts of attractions in addition to the actual pumpkins.  Isaac had a blast feeding the goats in the little petting zoo.  He truly loves animals.

October 25, 2011

Everyday last year after picking Isaac up from school, we would stick around for awhile so Isaac could play with the kids (running around the bush) and I could chat with the other moms.  This year with the afternoon schedule there has not been anyone at the bush - until today.  It was a different group of kids, but Isaac still had fun running in circles with them.

And today it finally felt like fall a little bit.  I even dressed the boys in long sleeve shirts (and discovered that all of Isaac's warm shirts are too small for him).  But Luke sure looked cute!

October 24, 2011

We've had a tough time disciplining Isaac.  Time out is not very effective.  He also seems to think he is an equal with Charlie & I, so whatever we say to him he tries to turn it back around on us.  It's been really frustrating.  So today instead of putting Isaac in time out, I put all of his toys in time out.  I'm still not sure if he understood that it was a consequence or punishment, but boy did it make him mad.

October 23, 2011

Luke has finally mastered rolling both ways, and it is now his favorite pastime.  He was laying on a blanket with some toys, but he eventually rolled off and halfway across his room.  Isaac is still gone in Virginia, so now Cracker has to follow wherever Luke goes.

October 22, 2011

At around 1 month old Luke decided that he did NOT like his bath.  He would always watch me with a quivery lip while I lathered him up and then inevitably he would burst into tears.  He hated the hair washing the most.  While we were in Hawaii he had to have a bath everyday because he had sunblock and sand on him, and he really hated that hotel bathtub.  But since we've been home bath time has been much much better.  The past two baths we have had no tears at all!

October 21, 2011

Early this morning Charlie & Isaac left for Virginia.  Charlie is going to a friend's wedding and wanted to take Isaac with him.  So I have a whole weekend with just Luke & I and it is very quiet around here!  I talked to Isaac on the phone tonight and it was really cute to hear his voice and have him tell me about his trip so far.

October 20, 2011

Bloomingdale's was having a huge sale today so I went to stock up for our EBay store.  I got tons of really great deals and ended up going to both South Coast and Fashion Island so I could get everything from their sale racks.  The nice thing about spending so much there is that they send me rewards certificates which I then use to actually buy something for myself.  I've been saving them up and had $125 worth.  So today, with the sale, my extra 20% discount, and my certificates I bought a new pair of designer jeans for myself for only $25.

October 19, 2011

Today while I was at Target, my friend Andrea who is over Mia Maids with me was texting me about the activity tonight and the lesson for Sunday.  A few minutes later I ran into Nora who is the Laurel advisor, and she mentioned she had been texting with Andrea too.  I thought it was a funny coincidence so I snapped this picture with Nora and we sent it to Andrea.  Sadly, after the activity tonight the bishopric called me in to let me know they are releasing me.  I've been in YW about two years now, so I guess my time is up.  I wonder what will be next?

October 18, 2011

Today the bus actually came and Isaac finally went back to school.  When I picked him up he told me he didn't want to go home - he wanted to stay at school and sleep on the carpet.  I told him he had to come home because I would miss him too much.  Anyway, while he was at school Luke and I went shopping for an outfit for Isaac to wear to a wedding he is going to this weekend.  Everyone at the stores always comments on what a good baby Luke is because he's always just sitting happily in his stroller playing with a toy or sucking on his hands.  They only see him for a few minutes, but that's really how he is all the time!  We got lucky with this happy little dude.

October 17, 2011

Isaac had a three week break from school, and he was really looking forward to going back today.  We waited for the bus for almost 20 minutes before heading back to the house and checking the calendar only to see that today was a "staff development day."  Argh!  He was really disappointed so I told him we would go do something else fun.  He immediately responded "how about Disneyland?"  Um, no.  His second suggestion was Boomer's which was a little more feasible.  As soon as we walked in the doors he discovered this battleship video game.  He is really into battleships right now (there is one in the movie Cars 2), so he was in heaven.  I never even put in a token, he just had fun watching the demo and pretending to shoot the other ships.

October 16, 2011

Isaac loves talking on the phone lately.  Whenever it rings, I have to race him to answer it otherwise he inevitably pushes one too many buttons and hangs up on the caller.  When it is someone that he knows I will usually help him answer it and let him talk for a minute.  Tonight he was talking to his Grandma Wood and I heard him tell her "follow me" as he took the phone to his room to "show" her a toy.

October 15, 2011

Today we babysat for one of Charlie's co-workers while they went to a wedding.  Their little 13 month old boy, Weston stayed with us overnight.  Isaac did a pretty good job playing with him - even though he kind of hoarded all of the baby toys.  When it was meal time I cut up little pieces of strawberries, bananas, and cheese for Weston.  Isaac decided he no longer wanted his regular dinner - he wanted little baby bites too!

October 14, 2011

Isaac has been taking more and more interest in Luke lately.  I often hear him talking to Luke or see him showing him a toy, and this morning Isaac was singing "Where is Thumbkin"and holding Luke's little fingers.  I think it is so sweet and Luke loves it too.  He always gets a huge grin on his face when Isaac comes to play with him.  At Target today Isaac was showing Luke an M&M candy thing with a mini foam fan on it.  As you can see, Luke was fascinated.

October 13, 2011

Tonight we had dinner at Ruby's Diner to help out with a fundraiser for one of the Young Men in our ward and his Eagle project.  The only other time Charlie & I had eaten at Ruby's was the night before our wedding when we had milkshakes on the Pier with our friends and family.  Tonight's food was rather disappointing so I think we'll just stick with their milkshakes from now on.

October 12, 2011

We've had a lot of beach days lately!  This morning we met up with Mikael and her family at Newport Beach.  They are here to go to Disneyland, but today was their beach & pool day so we got to hang out with them for awhile.  We had so much fun and I was really wishing we had more time.  Come back soon Mikael!

October 11, 2011

We finally got authorization from our insurance company to get some additional speech and occupational therapy for Isaac.  Then we had to wait another two months to finally get in for an evaluation with the therapy clinic.  Here Isaac is drawing shapes to test his fine motor skills.

October 10, 2011

"Back to life, back to reality..." (that's a song isn't it?)  We arrived home on the red eye early this morning.  This afternoon Luke had his 4 month check-up.  He measured at 25 3/4 inches (75th percentile), weighed 16 lbs 4 oz (75th percentile), and his head 16.5 inches (25-50th percentile).  He is healthy and happy and chubby!

When Isaac saw me taking pictures of Luke, he wanted to be in them too.  And so did Cracker.

October 9, 2011

Isaac kept taking this long round decorative pillow from our bed.  He told me "look Mom, I'm a hammer head shark!"  I thought that was pretty creative.  He is making this same face in about 50% of the photos we took on our vacation.

October 8, 2011

I packed workout clothes so that I could go running in the mornings.  I ran along the beach the first morning, which was gorgeous, but most days I ended up going to the fitness center instead. I haven't worked out in a gym in years, so it was nice to use the weights and the elliptical.  I thought it was really cool that the hotel had compostable plastic cups.  Who knew you could make a cup from corn?

October 7, 2011

Another day, another beach.  This afternoon we went to White Rock beach.  There were some older local boys digging holes in the sand and Isaac really wanted to play with them, but they weren't being very nice.  So Isaac & I dug our own holes and a tunnel for his trucks too.  The sand here seemed to be extra sticky.  Isaac was literally coated in it by the time we left.  I think it was the combination of sunblock over sand, but it was nearly impossible to get off.

October 6, 2011

We spent the morning at Big Beach.  It was overcast and there were huge waves (though you can't see them in this photo).  Charlie was brave enough to swim, but Isaac and I just played in the sand and in the surf a little bit.  I loved wearing my new hat.  It's the one I spotted months ago and finally ended up buying it for a small fraction of the price on EBay.

October 5, 2011

We decided when we woke up this morning that we'd go ahead and drive the road to Hana.  One of my favorite stops last time we were here was the Black Sand Beach.  Once again, it did not disappoint.  The contrast of the black lava rocks with the turquoise ocean and the green foliage is absolutely stunning.

October 4, 2011

We spent the morning at Polo beach in front of our resort.  And Luke spent the morning napping in his little pop-up beach cabana.  I was so glad we brought this tent with us because it was perfect for keeping Luke out of the sun.  He napped really well in there too - better than he ever does at home.  The combination of the warm sun and the sound of the ocean waves must lull him to sleep.

October 3, 2011

We spent the afternoon at Napili beach, which is one of my favorite beaches on Maui.  Isaac found this little hill of sand near where we were sitting and dug a slide to put his trucks down.  He would climb up his path, push his truck down the "slide" and then race it to the bottom.

October 2, 2011

We had to wake up at 5:00 am to catch our early morning flight to Maui.  Unfortunately, after boarding the plane and waiting on the tarmac for awhile, we were informed that our airplane had a fuel leak and we'd have to get off and wait for another plane.  They ended up bumping the Kauai flight and taking their plane, so luckily we only had a two hour delay.

October 1, 2011

Today we went to Newport Beach with Chris & Carly's family.  It always takes awhile to get Isaac warmed up to the idea of the ocean, but once he was comfortable he loved running in and out of the waves with his cousin Lucy and searching for sea shells.
