Here's my little angel baby drifting off to sleep after eating. Sometimes I think he's purposely faking me out because he'll get just a little hint of a smile on his face while he's falling asleep in my arms instead of eating. I need to catch a photo of it. Then as soon as I lay him down he wakes up.

Today was Hudson's birthday party at Pretend City. It's a children's museum that has things like a pretend grocery store, a farm, a doctor's office etc. The kids played games, made fire engines, and ate cupcakes first and then went out in the museum to play. Isaac found a fire truck that he drove all around and would only get out for a few seconds to check out something else before running back to secure his truck. Eventually we made it over to the "marina" and then he forgot all about the fire truck while he played in the water for over an hour.

We went to get a car wash today and Isaac informed me that when he grows up he wants to be a "car wash guy." Very ambitious, right? He's also recently told me that he wants to be a waiter, a trash truck driver, and the guy that cleans sewer drains. I guess we'll worry more about career options when he's a little older.

Today was Isaac's first day back at school after the summer break. He and I were both very excited for this day! His new teacher is Miss Abbey and he is in a class of all boys (two of them were in his class last year). He was happier than he looks in this photo.
I also discovered that he is the only kid that doesn't have some kind of brightly colored character back pack. Maybe I am a mean mom, but I really can't stand all of that character stuff. And he's never said anything about it so I guess we're okay for now, right?

I often lay Luke on a blanket in Isaac's room so he can still be part of the action while I am spending time with Isaac. Today Luke was doing "tummy time" and Isaac told me he wanted to do tummy time too. Because it looks really fun I guess? I think when they are laying next to each other like this Isaac looks absolutely enormous! (And I don't remember why Isaac is not wearing any pants in this photo.)

We went to Sandy's house today for a visit. Isaac loves playing over there and it's nice to just sit and relax and talk with Sandy and not feel like I should be doing a million other things around my own house. I laid Luke on the floor to change his diaper and Isaac tried to step over him while carrying some toys. Before I could stop him a little car dropped and landed right on Luke's forehead. It broke my heart to watch his tiny bottom lip quiver and hear him cry out in pain. Just writing this is making me tear up a bit. He was fine within a few minutes but you could see a little red spot on his forehead and this sad little baby face. It is the worst feeling in the world to see your baby get hurt.

Karl & Janelle were flying home from their fishing trip in Alaska today and had a three hour layover at LAX. We drove to the airport and picked them up for a short visit so Karl could meet his new grandson. We grabbed a quick lunch at In-N-Out before they had to get back to the airport. Isaac cried half the way home because he wanted them to come back to the house and play with him. We are looking forward to their visit in September for the blessing.

Charlie left today for his business trip to Brazil & Chile. Since it was Sunday we didn't go anywhere the whole day. I skipped church because I didn't want to drag Isaac to the mother's lounge during Sacrament meeting, or fight the Primary battle by myself (he hates going). By the time bedtime rolled around I was about to lose it. You know how some days you just have more patience than others? This was not one of those days. Luke was a little fussy, Isaac was driving me totally crazy and then on top of that he would not go to bed. I'm not sure what time this photo was taken, but I think he ended up falling asleep on the couch sometime around 10:30.

Isaac has been so excited about the two birthday party invitations that he received in the mail within the last few weeks. Today we attended Cody's party and Isaac was not really interested in any of the party festivities other than the pinata. A better representation of the event would have been a photo of Isaac having a meltdown. Every time a kid would hit the pinata and a few pieces of candy fell out he tried to run out and grab them while the kid was still swinging the bat. I had to hold him back and then inevitably another kid would grab the stuff before he did. He still got plenty in his bag, but he just could not handle the fact that the other kids were taking "his" candy!

When Luke was born there was a photographer at the hospital that came and took pictures and then ended up selling us a package. This week they called to remind me that we had another 8x10 as part of our package and could they come to the house to do a session. The photographer wanted to do a few shots with the two boys together and then somehow it turned into a photo shoot of Isaac the camera hog with one of his Chuggington trains. Gee, I can't wait to see those photos.

Tonight some friends in my ward threw a baby shower for me and two other women who just had babies. I really did not need or want a shower since we already have everything for a little boy, but it was still fun to get together and celebrate with friends. They did a cute beach theme and I snapped this picture as they were putting out the food. Then I forgot to take pictures the rest of the night, but hopefully my friend will send me a few and I can post a better one later.

Tonight the girls from my Mia Maid class came over to visit and see baby Luke. They brought me some enchiladas to put in the freezer, and a few baby gifts. They had an activity where they all decorated onesies for Luke. I thought this one with a list of "My Favorite Babysitters" was really funny. And lately whenever I tell Isaac to "smile" for a picture he puts his fingers up by his face like this. I have no idea why.

July 19, 2011
It's been six weeks since Luke was born. My recovery was fairly quick and easy so I'm sure I could have started exercising awhile ago, but I didn't. I ran three miles this morning. It's been close to a year since I've run and I certainly felt that today. It was tough! But it also felt great to be outside in the early morning, feeling the burn, and clearing my head. I've definitely missed running. Hopefully I can stay motivated and get back into a regular exercise routine. (But I need new running shoes.)

Today my sister Sandy and her three kids came out to visit us and see Luke. She saw him for a few minutes in the hospital, but this was the first time she was really able to visit and hold him. He is six weeks old today! I can't believe how fast it's gone by. Isaac had fun playing with his cousins and the girls were so excited to see baby Luke. They liked petting his soft hair and looking at his little fingers and toes.

Luke and I went to church for the first time today. We only went to sacrament meeting though and we spent about 30 minutes of that time out in the hallway. Although it was nice to go back and see friends and enjoy a little bit of the meeting, it was also really nice to come home and put on my yoga pants and enjoy my baby in a quiet house. I think his little feet are the cutest things ever. And that yawn is pretty stinkin' cute too.

Charlie took Isaac to the pool today while I went to South Coast with Luke. I had to return a few things and buy some baby gifts. While I was there I decided to do a little shopping for myself as well since about 90% of my old clothes are too small right now. It's actually really easy to shop with Luke. He is pretty content in his stroller, and when he's not I just put him in the baby bjorn and he loves it. Then the empty stroller doubles as a shopping cart for all my bags. Everyone always gives me the handicapped fitting rooms, which are super spacious and also a great spot for nursing. All in all it was a pretty successful shopping trip.
Also, I just can't get enough of this adorable little baby! I think he's getting cuter everyday. This is one of my favorite outfits on him (it was one of Isaac's) and I'm really sad that he's just about to outgrow it. He's getting a little bit chubby, which is also adorable.

Someone had the wrong number. I tried to tell them but they didn't believe me. Then they tried calling. Twice. I just let it go to voicemail but they didn't leave a message. I guess they figured out I wasn't a "meany head" after all.

Behold, the $100 tomato! About three months ago I started a "container garden" after attending a Relief Society Enrichment activity at a local gardening store. I was really excited and optimistic about the idea of growing our own fresh and organic produce. I spent about $100 on containers, plants, plant food, and organic soil. Well now three months later I'm not so excited. We've had about 5 miniature strawberries and finally this one tomato! I don't know if it's because the weather hasn't been warm enough, or maybe I did something wrong, but this garden has been a total let down thus far.

We went to the post office today to drop off EBay packages. I weigh everything and print shipping labels at home so all I have to do is drop them in the mail box. Isaac always loves being the "mail truck" and loading the packages in the big mail box and using the handle to drop them in. Today he was a "fire truck mail truck."

Isaac has been sick for a few days. This morning he had a fever so I gave him some Tylenol (grape flavored) and some juice. About 20 minutes later he came into my bedroom to tell me he didn't feel well and then proceeded to throw up the grape Tylenol and berry juice on our new carpet. Nice. But I've been really happy with this steam cleaner thing we bought. It's great for spots and nice to have on hand when something like this happens so that I can get the stain out quick.

Here's our dinner for tonight: chicken pot pie, all ready to go in the oven. Life is starting to feel a little more normal again and sometimes I even manage to make a decent meal. This recipe is from the Pioneer Woman cookbook and I like it because it just uses one crust on top of the pie. And it makes two pies so we have enough for another night.

Today I pulled out the Bumbo seat to see if Luke would like sitting in there. He is still a bit young/small for it because he can't hold his head up for very long. But all of this baby gear sitting around the house seems to be totally intriguing to Isaac. He decided to put the Bumbo to good use, using it as a booster at the table.

Luke has been a little fussy in the evenings lately and likes to be held. I've found that he is perfectly content if I put him in the baby bjorn and walk around with him. So tonight I decided to get out and enjoy the fresh air and try and get Luke to go to sleep. I snapped this photo with my phone as we passed under a street light.

We have been planning our upcoming trip to Maui in October, so I pulled out my old hard drive to look at pictures from our last trip. We went four years ago when I was pregnant with Isaac. This is a picture of me (the black dot) standing next to the Nakalele blowhole. I loved how you could walk right up to it and feel the force of the ocean as it sprayed up through the ground.

Tonight we had dinner with our friend Naddia at Sharky's. We ate inside in order to keep Isaac focused on his food instead of the fountain, but after we finished dinner we sat outside for awhile to chat and enjoy the evening.

Little Lukester is one month old today! Part of me can't believe it's been a whole month already, and part of me feels like he's just always been my baby. He's growing quickly and no longer fits in most of his newborn size clothing. I weighed him on our scale at home today and he is 11 lbs (up from 8 lbs 12 oz at birth). Even though he's been a bit fussy lately he's still the sweetest thing and totally melts my heart with his chubby little baby face. I love this guy!

Before having children I used to be somewhat judgemental of other parents allowing their children to do questionable things. Like drink from humongous cups of soda. Well let's just say I've learned to choose my battles and to be a lot less judgemental. Charlie is an avid Diet Coke drinker and Isaac acquired a taste for it at a very young age. When it's up to me I still try to limit his soda intake or only allow the caffeine free kind, but Charlie often has a soda with his meal and Isaac is always begging for "just one little sip."

Woodbridge always has a lot of fun activities going on for the 4th of July. Charlie ran the 10k this morning and then we went over to the church activity for breakfast & bike decorating before heading over to the parade. Isaac rode in the bike parade and then we came home for what ended up being Isaac's favorite thing: a water balloon fight. I'm not sure where Charlie got this idea but he and Isaac had been talking about it all week and Isaac was super excited. Here they are battling it out in the backyard.

I bought this new bedding set for Luke from The Land of Nod several months before he was born. I kept searching for some cute artwork to hang on the walls, and finally found these alphabet and number prints on Etsy.

Charlie convinced me to go out to the "909" with him today. He hadn't been out there since he quit his old job back in February. I actually grew up out that way, but I don't remember it being quite so ghetto at the time (and we did live in one of the nicer areas). Anyway, today we had lunch with one of his old co-workers, visited a co-worker that is in the hospital, and shopped at some of the outlets. I tried to snap a picture of this bus thing we passed. I didn't get the whole thing, but I think you get the idea. I felt it was a good representation of the area we were in.

Charlie got off work a little early for the holiday weekend. He took Isaac to the pool while I took Luke with me to the Spectrum to make some returns and do a little shopping. Luke got hungry so we made a pit stop in the Target dressing room.
