May 31, 2011

I meant to take a photo at the theater tonight but since I forgot, I had to snap a picture of my ticket stub instead.  I bought some Fandango tickets on one of those coupon sites awhile back and they were about to expire (and I'm about to be homebound for awhile).  I didn't even know what movies were out, but my friend Sherri agreed to be my date and we had a nice girl's night.

May 30, 2011

Some friends of ours invited us to their beach house in San Juan Capistrano for Memorial Day.  We had such a great time!  The house is a beautiful setting, right on the water.  The kids had fun playing on the beach, Charlie got to try out ocean kayaking, and then we had a nice BBQ and dinner on the patio.  It was totally relaxing, no holiday beach crowds, and great company.  The perfect way to spend the day.

May 29, 2011

We recently took out a life insurance policy, and as part of the process they required a health screening.  They sent a woman to the house to take a blood sample and this is what Charlie's arm looks like a few days later.  He said it was quite painful when she jabbed the needle into his arm.  Apparently this woman needs a refresher course in how to draw blood!

May 28, 2011

This morning we met our friend Naddia for breakfast at IHOP.  Irvine is home to every chain restaurant you can imagine, and not much more than that.  While driving to breakfast we asked Isaac what he wanted to eat.  He kept insisting that he wanted just pancakes - no eggs or bacon.  When I showed him the menu he decided he wanted the baby pancakes (which came with eggs & bacon) but still insisted that he only wanted to eat pancakes.  So when they set his plate down in front of him, what do you think he ate first?  The eggs of course.  But he did eventually eat all of his pancakes too.

May 27, 2011

After school today we joined some of the kids and moms from Isaac's class at Heritage park.  We'd never been to this park before because it's kind of on the other side of town, but it was really fun.  Isaac had a blast playing in this water feature.  Also the playground structures are like giant sail boats and pirate ships which was pretty exciting for him since he is still on a boat kick.

May 26, 2011

One of my friend's from ICEC asked me about Isaac's karate program and she ended up signing up her son Lincoln.  Today was the boys' first day of class together and it was so fun to watch them interact.  Afterwards we went to lunch at Chik-fil-a so Jodie and I could chat and catch up and the boys could play.  I couldn't get them both looking at the camera, but they were very excited about the balloons that they got.

May 25, 2011

Tonight for our YW activity we went to the choir concert at Woodbridge High School.  One of girls from our ward is in the choir and there were a couple other kids from the stake too.  Before it started one of the girls told me it was "show choir - kind of like Glee."  There was even a kid in a wheel chair.

May 24, 2011

I tried a new recipe tonight.  Grilled tilapia with mango salsa.  Except we have a charcoal grill and I was too lazy to start it up, so I baked the fish instead.  It was good enough to make again.  But, note to self: I think I need some gloves or something next time I decide to dice a jalapeno.  I've never had this problem before, but for some reason the jalapeno juice ended up totally burning the skin on my fingers.  And I made the big mistake of rubbing my nose, and that was super painful too.

May 23, 2011

We usually do our Costco shopping on Saturday, but we didn't get a chance over the weekend.  It shouldn't be any surprise that Monday night is much less crowded.  So why do we go on Saturday?  Maybe we'll have to rethink that.  Anyway, here's Charlie grabbing some butter for us.  And I think Isaac is eating his sample of feta cheese.  Do most 3 year olds like feta?

May 22, 2011

After church and 38 weeks pregnant.  The photos from my pregnancy with Isaac are saved on an old hard drive.  I'm pretty sure my stomach was bigger with him, but I still feel enormous this time around.  I don't remember being that uncomfortable with Isaac and I never felt any contractions.  This time if I do much walking around I start having quite a few contractions.  I don't think they're doing much though other than making me really uncomfortable!

May 21, 2011

Today we attended a birthday party for a little girl in Isaac's school class.  All of the kids had fun collecting sticks, playing on the swings, and in the bounce house.  Isaac was talking about this party for several days leading up to it and several days afterwards.

May 20, 2011

We usually do yard work on Saturday but Charlie decided to get started after work tonight.  It needs a good spring clean up, but we are still waiting for the association to come and replace the fence (which means that massive wood pile is still sitting in our parking lot taking up all of the spots!).

May 19, 2011

Hopefully I can think of more interesting things to take photos of for the rest of the year.  This is what I picked up at Target today.  I was looking at one of my pregnancy apps on my phone last night and when I saw only 19 days remaining until my due date, it started to really sink in that this baby is coming soon!  We have almost everything we need, but there were still a few things like baby wipes, pacifiers, infant tylenol, and nail clippers that I needed to pick up.  I also stopped by Lowe's to pick up paint.  Hopefully after this weekend the nursery will be all put together.

May 18, 2011

As I'm posting pictures from the last few days I'm realizing that I need to be better about using my nice camera.  It's just always so convenient to grab my phone, but sometimes the photo quality is pretty bad.  Anyway, Charlie came home from New York tonight and brought some fun surprises for Isaac.  He was at a trade show where lots of other vendors came by and wanted to trade product with him after the show was over.  So Isaac ended up with a Lightning McQueen snuggie, a "weasel ball" (it has batteries and rolls around on the floor with this furry weasel thing attached to it), a Cars puzzle and a Chuggington puzzle.  He was in heaven!  And who knew that a weasel ball could be so exciting?

May 17, 2011

I normally use the few hours in the morning while Isaac is at school to run errands or do some shopping for myself (I used to exercise sometimes too but lately I am feeling way too big, uncomfortable, and tired for that).  This morning I was so tired that I spent the whole morning just laying on the couch.  I don't remember feeling bad during the last few months of pregnancy with Isaac.  I was in no hurry for him to come.  This time around is a different story.  I've been pretty achy and tired lately.  It's frustrating to feel limited physically and I'm getting rather eager to have my normal body back!

May 16, 2011

Charlie has recently taken Isaac on a few of his runs down on the bike trail.  Isaac loves seeing all of the big rocks that are down in the irrigation canal and today he asked me to go on a walk to see big rocks.  He rode his tricycle and we went down to the trail and then climbed down to the river bottom.  The big rocks are actually another mile or so down the trail, but Isaac seemed to be happy enough with exploring among the little rocks.

May 15, 2011

Tonight was the season finale of Survivor: Redemption Island.  This is one show that Charlie & I like to watch together, but he is out of town so I had to watch alone tonight (and he watched it in his hotel room in New York).  I was so happy that Rob won!  Not that there was much competition because none of the final players had any strategy other than following what Rob told them to do.  Natalie was totally worthless and Phillip was just plain crazy.  I kept thinking Phillip would come to the final tribal council and say that the "crazy" was his strategy to win, but instead he just continued insulting everyone and making them hate him more.

May 14, 2011

Tonight the YW held their fundraiser for Girl's Camp.  It was a luau theme and there was a dinner, carnival games for the Primary children, a bake sale, and an auction & silent auction to help raise money.  Isaac and I spent a few hours this afternoon at the church helping to set up.  Sorry for the bad photo - I only had my phone.

May 13, 2011

Charlie's company threw a baby shower for us (and another couple) today.  We already have pretty much everything we need for a boy, so Charlie told them we just needed diapers.  Well that's exactly what we got!  I've kind of forgotten how many diapers a newborn actually uses in a day but I'm pretty sure we now have enough for at least a couple of months.

May 12, 2011

We recently started buying organic milk.  The expiration date on the last carton we bought was over a month away so I thought it must have been an error.  Well tonight we picked up another carton and I was surprised to see another expiration date almost six weeks away.  I did a little google-ing and it turns out that organic milk uses a different pasteurizing process than regular milk.  It is heated at a higher temperature and kills virtually all bacteria, allowing it to stay fresh for much longer.  The downside is that it caramelizes some of the lactose resulting in a sweeter flavor, but since I pretty much only use milk on my cereal and in cooking I have never noticed the difference in flavor.  Plus we always ended up throwing out half used cartons of regular milk, so in the long run I think the organic option will actually be saving us money!

May 11, 2011

Our Disneyland passes expired back in October and we hadn't been back since.  My sister Sandy has a friend who works for Disney's travel department and she can sign guests in for free whenever she wants.  So Sandy has been trying to arrange a Disneyland trip with us for the past month and today it finally worked out for us to go.   I was a little surprised that after 7 months with no Disneyland Isaac still remembered all of the rides and on our drive there he told me everything that he did and did not want to go on.  At eight months pregnant I managed to spend 6 hours walking around the park, and felt pretty good until about the time we were leaving.  Isaac had a great time and I was glad he got a chance to go have a fun day with his cousins.

May 10, 2011

Isaac's classroom has a tool bench with a bunch of toy tools and the kids don't get to play with them that often.  They are sitting right by the door so everyday on his way out of the classroom Isaac asks me if he can play with tools (and the answer is always no because school is over).  Today he was so sad he couldn't play tools and asked me "Mama, pwease get me a dwill pwease?  Pwwweeeeaaasssseeee???"  So I thought about it and told him he could earn money by being good and then we would go buy a drill.  The second we got home he ran to his piggy bank and told me to get his money so he could buy a drill.  K, so I know I am a huge sucker but we ended up at Toys R Us and Isaac is the now the very proud owner of his first power tool.

May 9, 2011

End of the day and there was nothing that exciting to take a photo of.  I did a lot of cleaning today, including the stove.  I kind of hate cleaning my house and don't keep up on it as well as I should.  The stove is one of my least favorites to clean because I feel like no matter how much I scrub those burners I can never get them completely clean.  Does anyone have any good stove cleaning tips for me?

May 8, 2011

Charlie mentioned a few weeks ago that he was going to make this ice cream dessert for Mother's Day and I have not been able to stop thinking about it since!  I'll just go ahead and blame that on pregnancy, but the dessert is really fantastic.  It's a Wood family recipe with a crushed Oreo crust, ice cream, and hot fudge topping.  Yum.

May 7, 2011

We went to another Angel's game tonight.  Isaac was still disappointed that we were going to see baseball and not monster trucks. (He watched Monster Jam on TV and recognized the big "A" from Angel's stadium so now he keeps telling us he wants to go to the baseball game to watch monster trucks.)  He doesn't follow the game, but he gets excited when they shoot off fireworks for a home run (there was only one tonight) and when they show the rally monkey on the big screen and play the "Jump Around" song - and of course he jumps around.

May 6, 2011

This isn't such a great photo, but it will have to do.  Charlie was in Mexico City for work so Isaac and I went to Rubio's for dinner.  I usually order nachos and Isaac always gets a bean & cheese burrito.  Tonight I got a burrito too and I poured salsa over the top of it, enchilada style.  I guess Isaac thought that looked like fun so he dumped sauce all over his too.  And then he didn't want to eat it anymore because it had too much sauce on it.

May 5, 2011

This morning a big flat bed truck came and delivered all of this wood to our parking lot.  I talked to one of the guys to ask what they were doing and he informed me that they were going to be putting a new fence in our backyard.  This is great news because I think our current fence is about 30 years old and is completely falling apart.  Isaac is just really excited about the little forklift that is sitting in the parking lot next to all of the wood.

May 4, 2011

I forgot to take a picture today.  These are the registration forms for the hospital.  Isaac was born at Irvine Regional, but it no longer exists so I have to choose between Saddleback and Mission Viejo this time.  Saddleback wins because it's closer.  I'm kind of sad that this baby will have Laguna Hills on his birth certificate rather than Irvine.

May 3, 2011

Today is Cracker's 8th birthday.  We celebrated tonight by having chili cheese hot dogs for dinner.  I think he's feeling a little sick now, but he sure did enjoy it!  I'm actually feeling a little sick too, which is why we only eat chili cheese dogs once a year.

May 2, 2011

Isaac has a book about a "Sand Castle Bash" where a bunch of trucks build sand castles and then knock them all down.  He had been asking for days to go to the beach and build sand castles.  This afternoon we drove down to Newport and spent a few hours at the beach.  It was a beautiful day!  It was warm with a nice breeze, super clear, and not very crowded.  We built sand castles & knocked them down, dug tunnels, waded in the surf, caught sand crabs, and watched dolphins and boats out in the water.

May 1, 2011

So I'm a third of the way through the year and somedays I just really can't think of anything very interesting to take a photo of.  Charlie brought me home this mandolin slicer from Zyliss (his new company) a few weeks ago.  I don't know why I went so many years without one of these.  It makes this potato gratin recipe SO much easier.  And it also came in handy on easter Sunday when I was slicing 4 lbs of kiwis for fruit salad.
